You need to be on your toes all the time. If you have a weak heart you will not be able to handle patients who are on in the last stages of their life. You are always surrounded by sick people. Some tasks are very difficult like handling bodily fluids, cleaning bedpans, changing the linen, bathing the patients and also empty the catheter bags. Many times patients vomit on the floor or even urinate which the CNA’s also need to clean it as well.
The job also needs one to be physically strong as they have to wake the patient from the bed and also take them to the bathroom and bathe them. Many times CNA’s have to make them perform certain exercises which also need you to hold the patient. Another con that makes people truly tired is the long working hours. You may be called for double shifts due to shortage of staff. So you have to be ready all the time. The job is demanding and needs mental and emotional stability.
